Sheila Mackenzie Jewett Bailey, only child of Sarah Hart (Phelps) and John Howard Jewett (1843-1925), was born on June 9, 1882, in Worcester, Massachusetts, where her father was a writer and publisher of the Worcester Gazette . John Howard Jewett, known as Howard, was the author of "The Bunny Stories" series for children, originally created for his daughter. Sheila Jewett Bailey attended the Dalzell School in Worcester.
